WSVG Toronto

We've been preparing for WSVG Toronto over the past few weeks and it's been going pretty well. I'm actually really shocked by how much we've improved in such a short period of time.

Before we signed up, 3v3s were pretty casual for us. We were doing anywhere between 15-20 games a week and swapping the lineup around pretty often. As soon as we signed up, everyone took games more seriously and the volume of games went up drastically. We've been doing ~50 games per week for a little bit now and like I said, I really didn't think there was this much room for improvement.

When you're playing against teams of relatively equal skill and gear, the smallest things can shift the tide in your favor, and the more you practice with the same people, the more little things you figure out. I won't go in detail about what we do and what we've learned yet since I'd like to keep the element of surprise for WSVG. A lot of the teams haven't played against a hunter and may not know what to expect.

A lot of it has to do with the sheer number of makeups you can go against though. Having a refined game plan for every combo really makes a difference. Switching one class (or even a spec in some cases) of the opponents' often makes for a completely different game. Priest/Rogue/Mage is completely different from Priest/Rogue/Warlock, just as Warrior/Pally/RestoShaman is completely different from Warrior/Pally/RestoDruid even though they're both considered to be part of the same general category. At a tournament where every game counts big, you can't really afford a loss to refine your strategy.

Although I think 3v3 is still somewhat like rock/paper/scissors, the WSVG have done a great job with their tournaments so far. Each has been much better than the previous and I'm pretty curious to see how the one in Toronto will go. Blizzard really need to take some notes and get their eSports team in shape, there's a lot of potential in every bracket
